Haddock Roofs: Station Days, Pine Country, Georgia Sun

Haddock is also known as Haddocks Station. It was named for the Haddock family, who owned a large plantation in the area. The community had its beginnings in the 1870s, and before that there were trading posts that dealt with the adjoining Indian Territory.

In its busier years, Haddock had schools, a train station, a saw mill, a bank, and a canning factory. Most of those businesses have since closed. A few well-known names connect to the place: George Stallings, the Major League Baseball player and manager, died in Haddock, and glass artist Frances Stewart Higgins and professional golfer Walter Morgan are also counted among its notable people. These days Haddock is unincorporated, one of several such communities in Jones County along with Bradley, Clinton, Fortville, Round Oak, and Wayside, and it serves mostly as a bedroom community for people who work in Macon and Milledgeville. Mail still comes through a Haddock post office under ZIP code 31033, and it sits at an elevation of about 499 feet.

State Route 22 is the road that defines it. Haddock lies along SR 22 east of Gray, the Jones County seat. Heading northeast out of Gray, the highway passes Lake Jonesco Golf Course, runs through Haddock, and then crosses into Baldwin County on its way into Milledgeville. That's one short piece of a much longer route: SR 22 covers about 223 miles in an arc from Columbus to Comer.

Gray's story ties in here. It was founded in 1851 and named for James M. Gray, a wealthy cotton planter and landowner, and the county seat moved there in 1905. Gray drains east through tributaries of Commissioner Creek, which flow to the Oconee River. In the 1890s, the Central of Georgia Railway built a line called the Macon & Northern Railroad through Jones County. The county itself dates to December 10, 1807, and is named for U.S. Representative James Jones.

Jones County has its share of Piedmont woods. Part of the Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge lies in Jones County. The refuge covers about 35,000 acres, was established in 1939, and is mostly upland forest, with loblolly pine on the ridges and hardwoods along the creek bottoms. It's also home to the red-cockaded woodpecker, an endangered bird that needs older pine forest for nesting. Jarrell Plantation State Historic Site, also in Jones County, sits in the red clay hills of the Georgia Piedmont and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

If your property has pine or hardwood cover, your roof lives with it. Branches overhang, needles and leaves collect in valleys, and shaded slopes dry slowly after rain. Meanwhile, open roofs bake. For the southern two-thirds of Georgia, NOAA puts summer highs above 90 degrees on most days and notes frequent afternoon thunderstorms fed by moisture off the Gulf.

Our company does a single thing. We rejuvenate aging asphalt shingles with a spray-applied coating, put right on top of what's already up there, for roofs that have some years on them but are still intact. We don't tear roofs off, we don't patch leaks, and we don't put on new ones.

Nothing gets sprayed until we've been up top. We want to know if the tabs are lying down, whether edges have started to curl or split, what moss or lichen has settled where the sun doesn't reach, and if any pieces are gone. Then we'll tell you, in plain words, whether the coating is worth doing.

    Common Questions

Is Haddock too far out for you?

No. Haddock is in Jones County along State Route 22, east of Gray, and we come out there. Call (470) 541-5423 to set up a visit.

I commute to Macon or Milledgeville. Do I have to be home while you work?

We'll talk through it when we schedule.

Do your dates change with the weather?

Yes. We spray on dry days with no rain on the way, so a stormy forecast can push things back.

How do I tell if my roof is a candidate?

If the shingles are aging but still flat and intact, it may be. If there are leaks or big missing patches, it isn't. We'll look and give you a straight answer.

    The Science of Rejuvenation

How HRX Rebuilds Asphalt Shingles from Within

Over time, solar heat bakes the petrochemical oils out of asphalt shingles, making them brittle and dry. HRX replaces those core oils and coats the exterior in a protective shell.

    Core Matrix Re-Oil

    Restores Flexibility

HRX bio-oils deeply penetrate shingle layers to replace evaporated asphalt oils. Shingles regain pliable elasticity, allowing them to expand and contract with temperature shifts without cracking.

    Granule Lock Technology

    Increases Granular Adhesion

Granules shield asphalt from sunlight. HRX acts as a clear binder that locks ceramic granules firmly into place, preventing gutter granule loss and shingle bald spots.

    Solar Thermal Barrier

    Superior UV Protection

Contains UV reflectors and polymer stabilizers that absorb radiation before it degrades shingle fibers, keeping attic temperatures cooler and extending roof life by 5 to 15 years.

    Hydrophobic Moisture Barrier

Repels rain, dew, and frost. Stops micro-fissures from soaking up water during rainstorms, eliminating winter freeze-thaw cracking cycles.

    Eco-Friendly Low VOC Formula

Water-based, non-toxic formula that cures safely without heavy odors. Safe for landscaping, pets, and children while diverting tons of shingle waste from landfills.
