Macon Roofs Along the Fall Line

Start with the river. Macon sits near the fall line of the Ocmulgee River, where the hilly Piedmont gives way to flatter plains to the south. That drop is why the north side of town rolls and the south side lies flatter, and why Fall Line cities like this one once ran textile mills off river power.

People were here long before the city was. On the east bank of the river, Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park protects about 3,336 acres, including the Great Temple Mound and other earthworks built more than a thousand years ago by Mississippian peoples. The modern town grew up around Fort Hawkins, built in 1809. A replica of its southeast blockhouse, put up in 1938, still stands on a hill in east Macon.

Bibb County was organized in 1822, and Macon was chartered as its county seat in 1823, named for Nathaniel Macon of North Carolina. The early planners wanted "a city within a park," with wide streets and plenty of green space. Nearly two centuries later, voters approved merging the city and county governments in a 2012 referendum, and Macon-Bibb County became official on January 1, 2014. Today the city is also home to Mercer University, Wesleyan College, and Middle Georgia State University, along with landmarks like the Hay House and the Tubman Museum.

That long history shows up in the houses. The Macon Historic District, listed on the National Register in 1974 and expanded in 1995, covers hundreds of acres of Greek Revival and Victorian buildings in and around downtown. Ingleside grew up as a planned neighborhood, and its historic district, listed in 2016, takes in about 549 acres and more than 600 contributing buildings, some designed by architects like Neel Reid and Ellamae Ellis League. Ingleside Village remains one of the city's traditional shopping areas.

And then there are the trees. Macon calls itself the Cherry Blossom Capital of the World, with hundreds of thousands of Yoshino cherries that bloom in late March. The story goes back to William A. Fickling Sr., a local realtor who noticed one in his own yard. The International Cherry Blossom Festival started in 1982 and is held each spring. Add the other big shade trees on older streets, and a lot of Macon roofs spend their days under branches.

Shade has its tradeoffs. It keeps a roof cooler, but it also holds moisture and drops leaves, blossoms, and needles into valleys and gutters. The open slopes catch the full Middle Georgia sun. Macon summers run long and hot, with afternoon thunderstorms common through the warm months.

What we offer here is narrow by design. Lakeside Roof Restoration provides spray-on roof rejuvenation, using HRX by Armovex or Roof Shield on asphalt shingle roofs that are aging but still intact. The treatment is sprayed over the existing shingles. We do not strip roofs or haul off old material.

Each job begins with an inspection. We check whether the shingles still lie flat and hold together, note where moss, debris, or granule loss shows up, and compare the shaded and sunny faces of the roof. Then you get a straight answer about whether rejuvenation fits your house. If it doesn't, we'll tell you.

We serve homeowners across Macon and Bibb County, from the older intown streets to newer subdivisions. Macon is part of our service area, so call (470) 541-5423 to check scheduling for your part of town.

    Common Questions

Do you work in Macon or just around the lakes?

We do come to Macon. Call (470) 541-5423 and we'll let you know scheduling for your part of Macon-Bibb County.

Macon gets really hot in summer. Is that rough on shingles?

Inland spots like Macon average around 20 days a year over 95 degrees. That heat, year after year, wears shingles down. Rejuvenation is for roofs that are aging but still intact, so earlier is better than later.

Can you treat a roof on an older Macon home?

If it's asphalt shingle and in decent shape, likely yes. Age matters less than condition, and we'll look at the roof before anything else.

When would you tell me not to bother?

When there are leaks, soft decking, or large areas of cracked or missing shingles. Spraying won't fix those problems, and we won't sell you something that doesn't fit.

Serving homeowners across historic and modern Bibb County neighborhoods, protecting roofs against extreme Middle Georgia heat waves and high humidity.

    The Science of Rejuvenation

How HRX Rebuilds Asphalt Shingles from Within

Over time, solar heat bakes the petrochemical oils out of asphalt shingles, making them brittle and dry. HRX replaces those core oils and coats the exterior in a protective shell.

    Core Matrix Re-Oil

    Restores Flexibility

HRX bio-oils deeply penetrate shingle layers to replace evaporated asphalt oils. Shingles regain pliable elasticity, allowing them to expand and contract with temperature shifts without cracking.

    Granule Lock Technology

    Increases Granular Adhesion

Granules shield asphalt from sunlight. HRX acts as a clear binder that locks ceramic granules firmly into place, preventing gutter granule loss and shingle bald spots.

    Solar Thermal Barrier

    Superior UV Protection

Contains UV reflectors and polymer stabilizers that absorb radiation before it degrades shingle fibers, keeping attic temperatures cooler and extending roof life by 5 to 15 years.

    Hydrophobic Moisture Barrier

Repels rain, dew, and frost. Stops micro-fissures from soaking up water during rainstorms, eliminating winter freeze-thaw cracking cycles.

    Eco-Friendly Low VOC Formula

Water-based, non-toxic formula that cures safely without heavy odors. Safe for landscaping, pets, and children while diverting tons of shingle waste from landfills.
